How to Assemble a Galvanized Frame Canvas Fish Pond

Article date: 2026-10-31 | Updated date: 2026-11-03

A galvanized frame canvas fish pond goes from packed kit to filled tank in a day or two with basic tools. This assembly guide walks through the real steps our installation crews follow, including the checks that prevent most field problems.

Galvanized panels produced in the roll-forming workshop

Tools You Need

  • Two wrenches (sizes listed on the packing list) and a rubber mallet
  • Level, tape measure, and string line
  • Work gloves — never handle liner with rings on
  • A water source for the final fill test

Step 1: Prepare the Base

Clear the site of stones, roots, and debris. Level and compact the footprint — a hand-rammer or plate compactor works for most sizes. The base must be flat within a few centimeters across the full diameter; an unlevel base twists the wall rings and stresses seams. Standard installations do not need concrete works, but the ground itself must be firm — we confirm base requirements per site before shipment.

Step 2: Lay the Bottom Rail and Erect the Wall

Mark the tank circle with string. Bolt the bottom rail sections together on the marked line, then stand the corrugated wall panels into the rail one by one, overlapping per the manual. Work around the circle in both directions so the last panel closes evenly. Bolt the top ring on before final tightening.

Step 3: Fit the Liner

Unroll the PVC liner inside the wall on a windless day. Hook or clamp the liner edge over the top ring, working from four anchor points outward so wrinkles spread out evenly — do not pull hard on one spot. Check that the drain port lines up with the pre-welded outlet.

Step 4: Fit Fittings and Test

Install the drain valve, overflow, and inlet fittings hand-tight plus a quarter turn; over-tightening distorts the welded ports. Fill with 15–20 cm of water first and walk the perimeter checking for weeps at seams and ports. Then fill fully and re-inspect after a few hours.

Safety Notes

  • Never lean on an empty wall — it is only stable when filled.
  • Keep the work area clear of bolt offcuts; they puncture liners.
  • Fill slowly the first time and watch the wall alignment.

Common First-Time Mistakes

  • Rushing base preparation — most later problems trace back to an unlevel base.
  • Over-tightening the liner clamps and stressing the fabric.
  • Leaving tools on the liner — a dropped wrench on a hot day prints permanent damage.

FAQ

How many people are needed?

Two people handle most tanks up to 10 m diameter. Larger diameters need three or four for liner handling.

How long before I can stock fish?

Fill, run the water, and check parameters as you would for any new tank. Standard practice is to cycle and rinse before the first stocking.

Can the tank be disassembled and moved?

Yes — drain, dry, unroll the liner, unbolt the rings, and repack in the original crates.
